After my review of the Gerber Basic I was really excited to get my hands on the Gerber Epic, the second of two new fixed blade knives Gerber has recently come out with. There are several differences between the two, with the Epic the blade is different, it’s a different blade type (although they are both full tang) and it’s also a little longer and thicker but seems to be made from the same gray stainless steel. The Epic has a different handle type made of Textured Glass-Filled Nylon vs the Basic’s TacHide, the Epic has a bottle opener on the end and both have similar snap in sheaths. Both are great knives and offer different advantages depending on the application and blade type needed, both have great features and designs. Of the two I think I like the Epic slightly more because of it’s blade type and beefier feel, it’s been on two trips with me and I like it more and more after each use.
