My next stop after snorkeling with stingrays in the Cayman Islands was hiking the Dunns River Falls in Jamaica. The Dunns River Falls is a famous waterfall in Jamaica that is about 1000 feet high but the waterfall has step increases to the top, allowing it to be simple to climb, almost anyone can do it. Along the way there are many pools to swim in and natural rock slides to slide down. On both sides of the falls is a beautiful and lush forest that is dense and houses many different bugs and critters, including some beautiful spiders. Another interesting thing about the falls is that they are one of the only waterfalls in the world to empty directly into the ocean, which in itself is a beautiful thing to see.
Over the years this hike has become quite a tourist attraction so it is somewhat busy and there are often lines hiking up some of the more narrow areas. That being said this is
a really fun and easy hike that is rewarding because of the views and climb an ever changing waterfall. Some of the standouts for me were the fall of faith where you stand on a large rock and the guides push you to a backwards fall into the large pool waiting at the bottom. Also, the last climb up the main part of the waterfall was amazing as the views were beautiful and the water was a perfect temperature to just sit or swim in. The guides were great as well as they were pushing you to experience all the waterfall had to offer while yelling out “yea mon” every time you did something unique. I would highly recommend you experience this hike if you ever find yourself in Jamaica. Also, my Real Deal Brazil hat held up well in the onslaught of water it received on the falls.
Let me know if you have done this hike before and enjoyed it in the comments!
