First off, I have to say I checked off one of my life goals, fly fishing. Ever since I was young and I saw A River Runs Through It, I have always wanted to stand in the flowing river and cast my line in the hopes of catching a fish. We were able to do this on our Colorado trip and it was just as awesome ad I always thought it would be. Since none of us had done this before the first thing we did was go to the local mom and pops fishing shop and talk to the man behind the counter about how to catch a fish. He helped us learn how to set up our rods, gave us a breakdown on the way you fish, and even showed us some of the top locations in the area. We took his recommendation and headed to Tomahawk river area to start our adventure. Twenty minutes later, after applying bug spray and squeezing into my waders, I was in the stream giving it a go. Needless to say it was a beautiful area we were fishing in, and the act of fly fishing is extremely relaxing for the mind.

One hour turned into four and I had still not caught anything other then some reeds on the shore. I picked up my rod to call it a day only to here Zac all excited as he had hooked a fish and brought it in. It was a 12 inch rainbow trout and we were all so excited that someone in the group was able to get something (this was the only fish we took back all week). After pictures we headed back to the cabin, all believing our time fly fishing to be a successful one.
I have already started to research areas in SoCal where I can try my hand at it again, and would recommend it to anyone who has never done it before.
What do you guys think? Have you gone before? Have a place I can try in SoCal?
